White Island 2008
A grid of white on white points to the history of white monochromatic painting, while the title indicates the building blocks of colonisation and the islands of New Zealand/Aotearoa, 'land of the long white cloud'. The thin form and heat transfer properties within the painting mimic the warm, thin crusted moonscape of Whakaari or White Island, an active volcano off the coast of NZ, a landscape subject to change.
