Gill Gatfield – Tui-Pie

Tui-Pie 2005

A pair of magpies from the collection of the MCA transform into a pair of tui to form a hybrid of the introduced and the native.  Sharp witted and attracted to shiny objects, both species are excellent mimics replaying the tunes of others and those of urban environments.  Other native birds hover near extinction, while the tui, like the British-introduced magpie, thrives.
