Untitled 2010
Artworks titled 'Untitled' are common across genres, disciplines and media. Usually signifying openness to interpretation, the unknown, or simply indecision on the part of the artist, the 'Untitleds' are a disparate yet strangely connected body of unnamed art works.
In Untitled 2010, the idea of of a collective body of no-name multiples takes shape in a clear glass I that rises above and splits a compressed white cube. Suggesting a conceptual footing, both constraint and support, the base grounds the text in the mute forms of minimalism and monochromes. Vascillating between being beautiful and meaningful, 'the object' becomes 'the subject', and vice versa.
Complicating self-image, viewers see through themselves as they see themselves. With shifts of light and movement, the body becomes ephemeral. The viewer's internal voice is activated - reading the numeral 'first' and the first person present tense 'I', while being present in the first person. A silent soundtrack accompanies the cast of characters, reflected and projected on the space beyond; developing an open edition of endless reproductions.
