White I. (Whakaari) 2011
An abbreviated and punctuated white 'I' occupies the paintings central space. Titled after the enticing volcanic White Island (Whakaari), the main character in a Maori love triangle myth about the Moving Mountains, the self-centred Whakaari - still calling her lover to sea, is cut and stitched in place, a hand-lashed 'sail' floating in a linen field.
