Chip 2011
Literally a 'chip off the old block', the small modern abstract I-shape is carved from the same tree as Native Tongue, and is elevated on a restored colonial kauri pedestal. The two kauri timbers, separated by 45 centuries, have similar grain, colour and texture but have vastly different and unique DNA. Warm to touch, the sculpture is like an ancient organic micro-chip, a window into the past, revealing secrets about the beginning of life.
