Gill Gatfield – Eclipse Discs I-IV

Eclipse Discs I-IV 2007

In an ebb and flow of cyclic patterns, the feather Eclipse Discs perform a dance of evasion, shifting from transparent to opaque to reflective depending on viewer movement, light, and shadow.  'Eclipse' refers to the process where male birds shed feathers in prepartion for courtship, attracting mates and evading competitors.  An eclipse is also an obscuring of light by intervention of another body between the source of light and the spectator, while the verb 'eclipse' refers to overshadowing and surpassing.
