Series: Subject-Object

Literally a 'chip off the old block', the small modern abstract I-shape is carved from the same tree as Native Tongue (radiocarbon dated >45,000 years) and is elevated on a restored colonial kauri pedestal.  The two kauri timbers, separated by 45 centuries, have similar grain, colour and texture but have vastly different and unique DNA.  Warm to touch, the sculpture presents an organic micro-chip, a window into the past, holding information about early life on Earth.
