With a silky grain that looks and feels brand new, Chip II holds the memory of an ancient native forest buried for 50,000 years in New Zealand's Far North. Carved from the heartwood of this precious timber, which predates the last Ice Age and human evolution, the sculpture presents a sequence of signs and symbols. Measured space between the two figures frames an ephemeral element, a cross or plus sign, which replicates like DNA in the half-plus signs on either side.
