In an ebb and flow of cyclic patterns, the Eclipse Discs shift from transparent to opaque to reflective depending on viewer movement, light, and shadow.  'Eclipse' refers to the process where male birds shed feathers in preparation for courtship, to attract mates and evade competitors. An eclipse is also the obscuring of light by the intervention of another body between the light source and the spectator, while the verb 'eclipse' refers to overshadowing and surpassing.
