Silver Lining gives abstract form to the saying: 'every cloud has a silver lining', a proverb with particular resonance in Zealand/Aotearoa – defined as 'the land of the long white cloud'. Overriding a key tenet of geometric abstraction (where art is to be distanced from nature), Silver Lining interacts with the environment, absorbing heat by day and releasing warmth by night.  The thin lined structure renders the 'lining' used in building construction, while the back-up qualities of the work refer to a practice known as 'lining' used in the conservation of historical painting.  Form, function and image merge, compressed in a slender composition that shines in the sun.
