A slim grid of white on white adds depth to a flat white wall. In form, media and title, the work refers to the genre of white monochromatic painting (an abstract cul de sac), the islands of New Zealand/Aotearoa – 'land of the long white cloud', and the building blocks of colonisation. The carved artwork has thin form and heat transfer properties which evoke the warm, thin crusted moonscape of Whakaari or White Island, an active volcano off the coast of NZ, a landscape in constant change.
